Biden Says Netanyahu Isn’t Doing Enough for Gaza Ceasefire; US Close to Final Deal

Biden Criticizes Netanyahu’s Actions
President Joe Biden has openly said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu isn’t doing enough to help secure a ceasefire in Gaza. Biden also mentioned that the US is “very close” to putting forward a final plan to stop the fighting and release Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

US Almost Ready with Ceasefire Proposal
Despite past efforts failing, Biden remains hopeful, saying, “Hope springs eternal.” When asked if Netanyahu is doing enough to reach a ceasefire, Biden firmly said, “No.” This statement is one of Biden’s strongest public criticisms of Netanyahu during the ongoing conflict.

Protests in Israel Over Hostages
The renewed US push for a ceasefire follows the discovery of six dead Israeli hostages, including one American. This has sparked large protests across Israel, with citizens demanding the release of nearly 100 Israelis still held captive in Gaza.

Negotiations Between US and Israel
US officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have said Netanyahu accepted a US plan. However, Netanyahu insists that Israel needs to keep control over some areas of Gaza. This has caused delays in reaching a ceasefire agreement, as Netanyahu says he wants to defeat Hamas before agreeing to stop the fighting.

Vice President Harris Supports Israel
Vice President Kamala Harris has promised continued US military support for Israel, calling Hamas “evil.” But some Democrats feel her comments didn’t go far enough and want the US government to push harder for a ceasefire and a more balanced approach to the conflict.

More Losses and Growing Pressure
The death of American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin has increased calls for a ceasefire in the US. With thousands of Palestinians dead and continued Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, the pressure is mounting for the US to play a bigger role in finding a solution.

US Efforts to Free Hostages
The Biden administration is focused on securing the release of hostages. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan recently met with the families of American hostages in Gaza, reassuring them that the US is doing everything possible to bring their loved ones home quickly.
